My own testimonial on the Am Actify. I’ve noticed since I’ve been drinking water from my Amega water filter, which makes Micro Clustered, Alkaline, Anti Oxidant, Ionized, Zero Point field energized water, I no longer get colds and flus. I’m so incredibly pleased. This is a huge breakthrough for me and my body. I love my water machine!

Frozen "Play" Response

Here’s an interesting discovery.  When doing Somatic Therapy, I frequently incorporate  exercises that involve pushing with the legs and pushing with the arms.  The purpose being to uncover and release frozen or truncated flight/ fight energy that originates from past moments when it was not safe or feasible to do the action that the body needed to do, but the  impulse to do so is still held in the body memory.  In a recent session, while a client was describing a childhood memory,  I noticed his leg started doing certain specific movements.  When I asked him to follow this movement and investigate what the body wanted to do, he connected with the urge to play tag and run around.  In context the realization was highly significant, so to deepen the experience we went to the floor to do some pushing.  Doing the physical pushing, led to a deep and meaningful release for the client.  When later he asked me what was happening when he was pushing, it got me thinking. It wasn’t a fight or flight response, so I’m calling it a “frozen play response”.  This is a new way for me to think about “frozen responses” and what might be held in the body.   When doing somatic work, it’s not always about needing to get away or needing to fight.

The accident is over but your body may still be in "survival" mode-

Every year millions of Americans are injured in auto accidents. Studies have shown that most car accident victims showed symptoms of PTSD. Even a simple fender bender can have a great impact on the nervous system.

After a car accident, many people suffer a wide range of symptoms: feeling disoriented, loss of appetite, sleep disturbances, anxiety, anger, depression, physical pain that can’t be explained, fear of being in a car, or driving past the accident site, etc. Symptoms may not surface for months and may seem unrelated but can be directly linked to the trauma suffered during your car accident. If you have lasting symptoms and can’t find relief, the solution may be found in treating the trauma in the nervous system.

What happens during a car accident, or any situation that feels overwhelming to the nervous system, is a surge of survival energy comes up in order to help the body cope. When that intense amount of adrenaline floods us and doesn’t get released, parts of us can remain in survival mode. Trauma is a result of the deregulation of the nervous system not the actual event itself.

The good news is that you can learn how to use your body’s untapped resources to help regain wellness. In Somatic Trauma Resolution Therapy, (STR) a skilled practitioner incorporates cutting edge techniques from traditional medical, psychological and physical therapies with the goal of healing the nervous system; helping it to discharge shock and trauma in a safe and gentle way. Treatments for the physical body like chiropractic and acupuncture can go more easily when combined with STR, and healing can happen in a relatively short time and can leave a person even more resourced and empowered than before the accident.

NY Times article, Post Traumatic Stress; behind the facade

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/23/health/23voices.html?ref=health

I wonder what it will take for PTSD to no longer be labeled as a mental disorder when it’s not.  That’s why talk therapy isn’t an effective cure.  PTSD comes from disregulation of the nervous system.  Trauma is curable when you are able to safely discharge the high level of activation from the nervous system and learn how to self regulate.  A person must first feel safe in his/her own body before they can heal, otherwise you will just end up managing symptoms which eventually becomes exhausting.  It saddens me that so many people are suffering or medicating unnecessarily or spending years in therapy because their counselor is untrained in the workings of the nervous system.  PTSD is treatable with therapeutic modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, or Somatic Trauma Resolution therapy, for example.  Unfortunately these are not mainstream cures, but they work.

favorite new client quote

My favorite new client quote of the moment is this: “I like not having to figure out the mystery in order to feel better”. As we work together, based on what her body brings up, sometimes she’s able to remember exactly what happened and what it is that the body is trying to let go of or unwind. Not always. Sometimes, the body just starts “unwinding” in a very specific pattern and it isn’t yet clear what it’s remembering. One of the wonderful things about this work, is that you don’t always have to know what it is in order to feel better. We like to know because it satisfies the curiosity in the mind, but it’s not imperative. Once something has been released and there is a shift in a pattern, the person is able to feel better which is what’s most important.
