I wonder what it will take for PTSD to no longer be labeled as a mental disorder when it’s not. That’s why talk therapy isn’t an effective cure. PTSD comes from disregulation of the nervous system. Trauma is curable when you are able to safely discharge the high level of activation from the nervous system and learn how to self regulate. A person must first feel safe in his/her own body before they can heal, otherwise you will just end up managing symptoms which eventually becomes exhausting. It saddens me that so many people are suffering or medicating unnecessarily or spending years in therapy because their counselor is untrained in the workings of the nervous system. PTSD is treatable with therapeutic modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, or Somatic Trauma Resolution therapy, for example. Unfortunately these are not mainstream cures, but they work.
